This article presents the HEAL (Higher Education for All: Trauma-Informed Teaching and Communication, project number: 2023-1-RO01-KA220-HED-000167223) project as an innovative Erasmus+ initiative supporting trauma-informed practices in European higher education. Developed in partnership between institutions in Romania, Greece, Slovenia, and Ireland, HEAL promotes inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environments.
The study is based on a survey of 120 students and teachers, highlighting the impact of trauma on learning and well-being, as well as challenges such as limited access to support services, insufficient staff training, stigma, and lack of resources.
In response, the project developed a six-module curriculum addressing trauma awareness, flexible teaching, access to counselling, stakeholder collaboration, stigma reduction, and supportive campus culture. This structured approach helps educators and institutions implement trauma-informed practices effectively.
Overall, the HEAL project offers a scalable model for strengthening resilience and inclusion in higher education and supports long-term improvements in teaching and student support systems.
